2023>2024

Well what a year 2023 was! Running a small business is a challenge at the best of times but this year has really taken me to the limits. The last few years I've been trying to get on-top of my finances post-covid, after 5 long years of not being able & not having the money or health to travel, 2023 was the year I found myself scrambling for more work and more money to fund a trip back to the UK.Kitten Vintage is just one of my side-hustles - alongside parenting / working as a marketing assistant and some teaching at Sydney Creative. Adding more events into already packed life is something of a challenge but 2023 saw me adding Grassroots, Fashion Thrift Society and...

Vinnies, I love you but you're bringing me down...

There's been a flurry of new stories around like this piece on ABC News about Fast Fashion swamping opshops and I have to say I am feeling a little drowned out by kmart t-shirts in my weekly visits. Ok, so I go in opshops. I go in a lot of opshops. Charity shops, flea markets, vintage fairs, garage sales and jumble sales, I've even been known to rummage through bags left out for council collection. I've been all over the world with a blue Ikea bag filled full of thrifted treasures so lets just say I can hunt down a vintage piece from a great distance.Since moving to Sydney 9 years ago I've ventured all over the city in pursuit of the best...

Round She Goes - Finally Back in Sydney!!!

EDIT: Due to Sydney Covid Cluster this event has been postponed date TBAWell Sydney friends, Covid Life has been a strange old time - I don't get involved in too many events but Round She Goes has been a strong date in my diary since I first moved to Sydney. It's such an awesome event and I enjoy shopping and the social atmosphere of this great event as much as I enjoy selling and meeting people. The last event was back in October 2019 - when the world felt such a different place, but my life has changed oh-so-much since my very first Round She Goes back in July 2014: I was still using my old brandname Me&Yu and looking back at...

Thirning Villa, Ashfield Pop Up Project

I love supporting local business but my suburb of Ashfield is more renown for tasty eateries than pop-up shops. I was so pleased to see this fabulous Pop Up Project by Apricot+Lime  (Rosell and Eleni). A collection of vintage homewares; selected artworks by local artist Jacqueline Larcombe and even more exciting to me - a few racks of fabulous vintage clothing! The beautiful Thirning Villa (gallery & artist in residence space) is just so well suited to this kind of venture. It's picturesque setting in between the tennis club, the bowling club and the sports oval mean it's a perfect place to sit on the verandah and enjoy a coffee or tasty treat. I'm sure in the roaring 20's some rather fabulously dressed local types...

Socially Distant Shopping

With a huge array of vintage clothing and accessories, a double rack of reworked and refashioned clothing and a growing range of clothes in the kit//ten collection, there's lots to see in the Kitten Vintage studio. We moved into a wonderful new studio space in Little Majestic just before Christmas and had plans to have regular open studio events with the first one planned for late March. Due to circumstances that no one could have predicted (yes that pesky Covid-19), all the events I usually participate in are cancelled. I'm slowly but surely adding my collections to my website and ebay store but as you can imagine it's a huge task and it's going to be some time before I have my full...
